Elev. up and down along a coastline
On March 15, during a visit to Esther and Dave in Courtenay, we hiked to Ripple Rock lookout, a popular hike north of Campbell River, with Evalyn and Heidi.
It was a cloudy, damp day but that is normal here and doesn't hold anyone back.
The trail starts down a long, steep hill and then goes up and down. We stopped at various lookouts along the way for snack and pictures. The girls ran and jumped over the rocks and didn't seem to need a rest. What hikers. Evalyn said they were practicing for the summer.
The trail was well marked, with bridges and stepping stones.
We soon came to a memorable climbing stump which Herm bravely agreed to climb for a picture.
A metal stairs led up to the final lookout.
Of course, we ate our lunch on top and admired the view. We couldn't see Ripple Rock because it had been famously exploded years ago to stop ships from self-destructing on it.
On the way down, we stopped to play on some logs by the shore. The girls were tiring but nothing a change of activity couldn't fix.
Amazing hikers.
